Culture, wellbeing, amusement, socialization and somebody always ready to help you: the San Giorgio is a very special library indeed.

The San Giorgio is not the usual library; this you can see as soon as you step over its threshold. A large and luminous space, the result of the restoration of the warehouses of the former San Giorgio railway factory. We are in front of the Depot of Historic Trains (directions) and you can see the old engines peeking out from the enclosure, a few yards away from its entrance.

Everything that you can possibly do in a library, you can do at the San Giorgio: read a book or a magazine, wander from one floor to another, search for new ideas, borrow a book or navigate online.

But there is still more. This place can be a point of reference even if you are only visiting the city for the first time or are passing through. The information desk at the entrance can be a precious source of help in order to overcome difficulties that you may come across, when travelling.

Not only books

You can also borrow a fan to freshen you up on a very hot days, or borrow reading glasses to see better, or borrow an umbrella to keep you dry in the rain – the red one with the San Giorgio logo! – or borrow a laptop for studying, working or for quite simply navigating on the internet.

Not only chairs and tables: here you will find comfortable armchairs for resting or, why not? for having a nap, before going on the next tour in order to get to know Pistoia. In the library, you will also find the café – the Caffetteria San Giorgio – where you can relax after having been visiting the city all day.

The library also offers a space for breastfeeding mothers, called Baby Pit Stop, where it is possible to find privacy.

This place of knowledge is a special place where you can feel at ease, share experiences, and spend some time together. Everybody is welcome – even if only passing through – and, once home again, you might even be tempted to send a postcard as you do to faraway friends.
