It stands to the north of Pistoia and to the south of the border with the Province of Bologna in the Pistoia Mountains.
The Forest of Teso extends over more than 2000 hectares of land, and ranges from an altitude of 795 metres to 1732 metres above sea level, from Pracchia to San Marcello Pistoiese with its centre at Maresca and Orsigna, from the River Reno to the River Verdiana. It lies to the north of Pistoia and to the south of the border with the Province of Bologna in the Pistoia Mountains.
Flora and fauna
Characterized by tall trees such as beech, chestnut and fir, it is crossed by the Maresca Stream and is a game reserve.
Deer, fallow deer, roe deer, wild sheep, buzzards, badgers, hedgehogs, foxes and some wolves all live here, as well as other types of mustelidae. Woodpeckers, dunnocks and song thrushes can be found in this forest which is also rich in ‘porcini’ mushrooms, raspberries and blueberries.

The Casetta dei Pulledrari – where walking itineraries depart from – is also the typical departure base for trekking trips over the mountain crests, on CAI (Italian Alpine Club) paths and going towards the Montanaro and Portofranca mountain lodges.
