The 2024 exhibition season of Pistoia Musei will open with the show ’60 Pop Art Italia, a retrospective on Italian Pop Art curated by Walter Guadagnini. The exhibition will be open from Saturday, March 16th to Sunday, July 14th at Palazzo Buontalenti.
A phenomenon primarily metropolitan in nature, born in London in 1956, Pop Art developed simultaneously in New York, Los Angeles, Paris, and Rome, before spreading worldwide, becoming the primary artistic expression of the 1960s.
The exhibition traces the genesis and development of Pop Art in Italy, in a journey through the main centers of irradiation – Rome, Turin, and Milan – touching other cities, such as Palermo and Venice, which contributed to the spread of the movement, without forgetting the important experience of the Pistoia School.
The retrospective will consist of over 60 works by the leading exponents of Italian Pop Art, including Mario Schifano, Tano Festa, Franco Angeli, Mimmo Rotella, Mario Ceroli, Pino Pascali, Fabio Mauri, Jannis Kounellis, Renato Mambor, Titina Maselli, Giosetta Fioroni, Laura Grisi, Roberto Barni, Umberto Buscioni, Adolfo Natalini, and Gianni Ruffi.
